Stained Glass One-Day Classes
Improve your stained glass skills or work on a personal project!

"Fabulous, I really enjoyed every aspect and love the piece I went home with." - Kirsty

If you've done some stained glass work before and want a refresher, or to update your skills, join us for this one-day class to develop your abilities and boost your confidence. Or perhaps you've tried foiling and now want to sample the leading method.

The objective of the day is to make a project piece that will challenge you and help you refine your skills.
We provide a range of sophisticated designs for you to choose from, or you're welcome to bring a design of your own to work on.
The class will be tailored to the requirements of the students - leading, foiling, making a garden panel or working on your own project - let us know when you book so we can discuss your goals!

Generally we start with a refresher on the key techniques:

  • Scoring and breaking glass with a variety of curves and shapes, focusing on accuracy and efficient glass usage
  • Preparing the glass for soldering using the grinder, emphasising the techniques required to achieve a good finish
  • Soldering using a pro-quality soldering iron, working on getting consistent lines and a smooth 'bead'

After a tea break, we'll discuss your project design and the glass you'll use.
If you opt to work on your own design, we'll work with you to identify any areas that need adapting and discuss tackling any especially challenging aspects of your design..
We'll also help you plan your work to make best use of the glass - essential for your ongoing career!

You'll then have at least 5 hours to work on your project with our supervision and as much help as you need!

Leading method - basic introduction (option)

If you've only tried foiling but want to sample the leading method, we'll teach you the basics of leading , giving you a grounding in this important technique, introducing the specialist tools and materials used by the pros. Let us know whenm you book if you want to try leading.

The course cost includes:

  • All materials, choice of project designs and glass
  • Use of tools and protective gear
  • Lunch and refreshments during the day
  • 2 tutors, maximum class size 4 people
  • Info pack to keep with information on where to buy glass and tools, plus reminders on techniques including introduction to leading
  • Copies of the class designs provided to work on at home
  • Your pieces to take home

Work on your own design

If you have a design in mind you'd like to work on, that's great!
Just let us know when you book, and we'll arrange to review your prosed design at least two weeks before the class.
We ask that the finished panel be no larger than A3-paper sized, and contain no more than 25 to 30 pieces. This is to ensure you'll be able to finish in the time available.

Special projects and extended sessions

If you have a larger or more complex project in mind, contact us - we often run 2-day sessions for small numbers of advanced students allowing more time and space for that really grand piece you've been planning!
Find out more about our 2-day project workshops here.
This is a great option for those with a larger project that will take longer than a one-day course to finish.
