A brand new workshop for next year, new art, fun hand-made Christmas decorations – updates from Vitreus Art aka. Jenny & Mike

Since we last posted we’ve been away for a week, got rained on heavily, ate at some great restaurants, hoovered up the sea air and visited some favourite old haunts down in Cornwall.
We’ve come back with heads full of ideas of new workshops and pieces to make so do keeping reading our newsletters – otherwise you might miss something exciting!

To start off with, here’s a completely new workshop for you – Wire Wrapped Jewellery – make contemporary jewellery with your choices of sea glass, polished pebbles and glass cabochons, taught by jewellery maker Jo Cross.

Wire-wrapping is a fun way to make stylish pendants out of any interesting stones, pieces of glass or fused glass ‘gems’ you may have at home.

On this workshop Jo Cross will teach you how to make a series of pendants using glass cabochons, sea glass pieces and smooth stones and you’ll leave with at least two pieces of completely unique jewellery.
All materials are provided, but you could also incorporate your own pieces of sea glass (for example).

The workshop is structured to lead you through all the essential techniques and will include student notes to help you carry on at home if you get the bug!

Jo recorded a short video explaining what this new workshop is all about – visit this page on the VA website and learn more!

As with all workshops at VA, class sizes are small, lunch, refreshments and materials are included in the price and our Covid no-quibble policy still applies!

You can buy a voucher for a value, or for some of our most-requested workshops.
When you do, we’ll email you when we receive the transaction to ask who the voucher is for and if it’s for a special occasion. We’ll then send you a personalised voucher to print out, with room inside for your own message.
Or if you have something a bit different in mind, just get in touch and we’ll sort it out with you.
We can also print vouchers in the studio while you wait.

New in the gallery….

Meanwhile in the gallery, you’ll see there’s lots of new art for all budgets.
For starters, how about these delightfully mystical paintings by Mark Duffin, all originals, all neatly framed in white and ready to hang. Great value for £250 for genuine originals!

There’s also a selection of limited edition prints for just £45, but be advised – in the first week half of our stock of prints has sold already.

Pop in and have a look, or visit Mark’s page on our website:

And there’re three fabulous pieces from new artist to the gallery – Sally McRae.

Sally devotes a great deal of time to experimenting in fused glass and we love her latest creations!
I haven’t had time to add these to our website this week so you’ll have to pop in or message us if you’d like to buy one of her new pieces!

There’s also several new slate paintings from Val Goldfinch, some painted during last month’s Art Trail and a new series of painted wooden houses.
Check out her cute rainbow cottages (some sold already), or her new bird paintings in operson – or they’ll be on our website later this month.

Jenny’s got her eye on the puffin pair, so you’d better be quick if you fancy these two yourself!

You can see examples of work from almost all of the 50 artists showing with us here:

Also new in the gallery….

And now it must be time to share some of the new Christmas decorations making their first appearance this week!
In addition to last year’s super popular Snow-Persons and Penguins, Ken Flegg has made us a batch of his cheeky Santas – so charming!
We also have some more of his coloured stars and frosty icicles.

And all the way from Devon, there’re new metal decorations from Cuffys – stars, mistletoe, snowflakes and a few mini trees – all in this year’s fashionable hammerite finish.
There’s also a selection of Jenny’s ‘frozen ice’ fused glass snowflakes on our tree, ready to be hung on yours!

We have a finite stock of all of these – when they’re gone they’re gone.
We’re now getting low on Jenny’s tealight holders and fused glass card-decorations too.
This year we probably won’t have time to make all these purchasable online so either call in or message us to order yours.

Workshops coming up…

Or if you fancy getting a bit creative yourself, there are just a few places left on these workshops before Christmas:

Christmas Scented Candles –  26th Nov at 2.30pm – 2 places, with a collection of seasonal fragrances to choose from. We won’t be running this workshop next year so why not snag one of the last places now?

Fused Glass Tealight holders – make 4 funky fused glass tealights – 14th Dec at 10.30am – 2 places – decorate a set of 4 tealight holders to light up your dinner table!

Fused Glass Christmas Decorations 1-day Workshop – make around 8 unique decorations – 18th Dec – 1 place; make a whole collection of decorations including stars, trees, Santas, tealight holders, icicles and more!

Or if you’re looking to learn more and make something more substantial, we’re adding more new dates up until May next year for all our regular workshops.

Well – that’s a lot to digest – thanks for reading this far.
All our best wishes
Mike & Jenny

P.S. look out for details of new upholstery evening course in March- it’s going to be fun!

P.P.S If you’ve been creating recently, or have taken what you’ve learned with us and started working at home, do send photos of what you’ve made – we love seeing them!
