News from Vitreus Art including your Sunflowers Ukraine donations – read on for more!

…we’ve been amazed by the response to the last email so we wanted to start with an update…

Firstly, we’d like to announce that donations to the Red Cross DEC Ukraine appeal from sales of the sunflower workshops in June and sales of fused glass sunflowers in the gallery have now reached £1017.45!
Thanks so much to everyone who bought a place on the special copper foiled sunflower workshop or who bought a ready-made fused glass sunflower including donation on your behalf.

There are now just two places remaining on the additional 17th June date for the copper-foiled sunflower mini workshop.
We won’t be able to run further workshops like this – the diary is just too busy now so if you’d like a place don’t delay – book now!
For each £79 place we donate £65.83 to Red Cross  – the rest is VAT and has to go to the tax man sadly.

…news in the gallery….

First up, new gallery artist Mark James, going by the nom-de-plume of 909Art, has dropped off four of his striking and very contemporary stencil-spray-paint canvases. Each is a great size – 80cm on the longest side, so making an impactful statement in you home, and very reasonably priced at £210 inc VAT and local delivery.

Take a look!

And there’s news from one of the country’s leading glass blowers – Alison Vincent…
Alison, hot glass blower and sculptor, is currently setting up a new hot glass work space in Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire.

This is a major undertaking as the equipment needed to produce such work is both large scale and complex.
Up until now Alison has always had to travel throughout the UK and rent studio space and assistants to help her in the production of her work.

This new venture will mean she will have more concentrated making time and we look forward to seeing the exciting results in the gallery soon.

To make way for new work Alison has decided to offer a unique 50% promotion on all her current work and we would like to help her with this endeavour.
The promotion will last until the end of April and you can find her stunning pieces here or in the gallery.

The current reduced prices for Alison’s work are compared with prices for at last the previous 28 days; quite frankly the lower prices are astonishing value – grab yourself an awesome piece of glass sculpture at a remarkable price!

…news from the studio…

Last time we announced Lesley Passey’s brand new Create Amazing Portraits 5-week course in August.
Since then 2 places have been snapped up so there are only 3 places remaining.
This course is for anyone (beginners and up) who wants to learn how to create lifelike portraits.

You’ll learn about using grids, colour palettes that suit human skin tones, the structure of facial features and so much more.
We’ve known Lesley for some years now and she’s established herself as a fun person as well as a great artist.
With a background in course creation, teaching and portraiture, this is going to be a lively, stimulating and productive course!

And how about another new workshop from Jenny for the glass fusers out there?

Just gone live and ready to receive your booking – Screen Printing with Fused Glass in one day.
We piloted this workshop a while back with a lovely family group, and then incorporated it in our ‘Turning Up the Heat’ two-day fusing course for improvers with great results all round.

You’ll learn how to create and cut out stencils for your images and then work with glass powders to screen-print your images on to the glass for firing at 800 Deg.C.
You’ll have time to make two images, each about 20x15cm,  ready for display after firing.

As well as all materials, kiln firing, lunch and as many cups of tea as you like, we’re including an acrylic plate stand to show off your creations.
Take a look at the web page for this new workshop and get ready to book your place!

And if you’d love to make your own fused glass sunflower like the ones we’ve been selling in the gallery, our new workshop led by experienced fuser Roger Loxton is now almost fully booked for the May dates, and part-booked for the August dates.

This is a fun 2-day workshop with loads of techniques, plenty of learning, but lots of fun too. And you’ll end up with a groovy sunflower about 23cm across – all made by you!
Take a look at the web page (and Roger’s video introduction) and bag your place before it’s too late!

…last minute availability…

Also in the studio, there are last-minute places on some workshops coming up due to re-schedules.

PMC Silver Jewellery for Beginners 10th April – a full day making silver jewellery with Precious Metal Clay – what fun!

Copper-foiled glass Terrarium 14th April – another amazing day, making your own terrarium mini-glass-garden.
Although a fairly new class, this has become established as a favourite with us – accessible, a great outcome, and just the right level of challenge for you – and for the teacher (me, Mike)…..
Hit the website for info and to book. We even give you advice on planting you terrarium.
We have an example in the gallery to show you if you’d like to see one planted in the flesh / soil.

Well – thanks for reading, donating to Red Cross, attending a workshop or supporting the creative industry in some way – until next time,
All the best from Mike & Jenny.

P.S. Look out for a new half-day workshop coming soon – make two fused glass mushrooms for your garden. Details are just about finalised and will go live in the next couple of weeks…..watch this space!

P.P.S We wanted to share the ocean waves made on last week’s glass fusing course but not all the pieces made have been collected so that will have to wait ‘til next time; for now the top image is just a little tease!
Great fun, and a really cool crop of waves off home to be admired by all who see them!
