Precious Metal Clay - Make your own Silver Rings
One day workshops for beginners and up with Jenny Timms and Mike Caddy

"A great day - very patient instructors, small class size meant lots of 1:1 input'. - Susan

Precious Metal Clay (PMC) - make your own silver rings using PMC, including a textured rustic ring to start off, followed by a more complicated two-part ring.

In this workshop you will learn about the fascinating world of silver jewellery-making with Precious Metal Clay - aka. PMC. PMC is a clay-like combination of pure silver and organic binders that, when fired, become solid silver.

This class cost includes 20 grammes of silver PMC - enough to make 2 rings.

After discussing the properties of PMC and how to handle it to avoid waste, we'll take ring size measurements and show you how to make the band for your first ring.

Making rings with Precious Metal Clay is fun and the results, even for beginners, can be impressive. The first ring you'll make will be a simple band with decoration and texture - to teach you how to work the clay and help you understand the processes involved in shaping, smoothing and finishing your jewellery.

Your second ring will add a textured or polished embellishment to the band - cut and shaped by hand, or using a mould to take an impression. You'll learn further shaping and finishing techniques useful for anyone considering making PMC jewellery at home.

During this workshop you'll learn more about how the clay behaves, how to work with it for the best finish and how to fire it.
This workshop is suitable for beginners, as well as anyone who's attended our PMC Jewellery mixed class - there'll be plenty of new techniques to enjoy learning!

We provide enough silver clay for your projects as part of the course cost; more can be purchased from us during the class or afterwards.

If you'd like to make a ring as a gift for someone else, you can bring an exisiting ring to take a size from, or use a ring guage and bring the size information with you on the day.

The course cost of £149 per person includes:

  • 20 grammes of PMC and silver PMC paste (enough for two rings on the day)
  • Use of all tools and apron and kiln time for your pieces
  • Light lunch & refreshments during the day
  • Maximum class size 4 people
  • All your work to keep
  • Eligibility for our Project Days Programme
  • Class runs from 10.30am to 5pm approx at our Northants studio near Towcester
