Learn the basics of foiling stained glass in just half a day!

This is a basic half-day taster workshop intended to give you a feel for the copper foiling method of stained glass; if you enjoy this class we suggest you consider a full one-day workshop to gain deeper skills and make a more challenging piece.
Half-day copper foiling stained glass beginners class for up to 4 people - 3d Butterfly Suncatcher or Plant Stake
We start out by learning some basic glass cutting techniques using the same tools we use ourselves.You'll then cut the coloured glass for your butterfly and move on to grinding the edges smooth. Once ready, you'll apply the coppper foil, and solder the wings together.
After the antennae and hanging loops or plant stake are added your butterfly is ready to enjoy at home, suspended from fishing line.
At each stage we'll show you the tools, materials and skills you'll need to complete your butterfly project.
- Scoring and breaking glass, using oil-cutter, grozing pliers and cut runner
- Preparing the glass for soldering using the grinder, copper foil and crimping tool
- Soldering using a high-power soldering iron and fluxes
- Adding loops or plant stake and antennae made from copper wire
The course cost of £79 inc VAT per person includes:
- All materials and glass
- Use of tools and protective gear
- Refreshments during the workshop
- Maximum class size 5 people
- Your piece to take home
- Class runs from 2pm to (approx) 5-30pm at our Northants studio near Towcester
