'Fantastic work, love the colours and working with felt' - Pat, Class attendee
'I loved this. This has definitely inspired me and given me a few ideas for my own art. Thank you' - Mazeenath, Class attendee
Local artist Naomi Lutman leads this fun workshop for a maximum class of 6 adults.
This fun and relaxing workshop is for those who are new to needle-felting, those with some experience and also for those who wish to brush up their skills.
This workshop is not suitable for children, due to the use of sharp needles.
The class starts by looking at some of the creative ways that needle felting can be used, with a brief explanation of the materials and tools we will be using throughout the day. You will get a real feel for the needle-felting technique by creating simple needle-felted shapes using flat felt and soft merino wool.
We will then create 3 dimensional felt shapes using templates.
Then we will consider making a beautiful 3d needle-felted flower and identify the petal and leaf shapes required. Visual reference will be provided to inspire the chosen ideas. Students will work towards producing a final finished needle-felted flower to either wear or to display as wall art.
Later in the day, we discuss how to enhance the flowers by using embellishments. Students who wish to embellish their flower can spend the remaining time finishing their needle-felt pieces with buttons or beadwork.
Learning Goals - students will:
- Learn how to make simple 2d and 3d shapes using needle-felting techniques.
- Find out how the ancient art of needle-felting started and how it has developed into the popular craft it is today.
- Find ways to develop ideas into a beautiful finished piece.
- Experiment, explore and enjoy this beautiful medium!
All the materials needed for needle felting will be provided on the day.
Students are welcome also to also bring beads or buttons to use as embellishments. You may also bring any images or flowers that they would like to use as reference for their work.
The starter kits provide attendees with plenty of materials so they can continue to work on new projects after being inspired by the workshop!
Each kit includes: beautifully soft merino wool tops in rainbow colours, 6 felting needles in a plastic tube, a pair of finger protectors, a wooden needle handle and a dense foam needle felting mat.
The course cost of £70 includes:

- Use of tools, spare needles and polystyrene balls
- Merino wool and 3 sheets of flat felt
