This short Christmas-themed taster workshop will give you a feel for the copper foiling method of stained glass; if you enjoy this class we suggest you consider a full one-day workshop to gain deeper skills and make a more challenging piece.
Suitable for beginners as well as anyone who'd like to make some cute Christmas hangings or a mini Winter Scene!
Half-day copper foiling stained glass beginners class for up to 7 people - choose to make a Foiled Angel or Mistletoe Hangings or Mini Winter Scene
We start out by learning some basic glass cutting techniques using the same tools we use ourselves.You'll then cut the coloured glass for your piece and move on to grinding the edges smooth. Once ready, you'll apply the coppper foil, and solder the pieces together.
We'll teach you how to solder the foiled sections together, and how to add decorative details like glass jewels and wire features.
At each stage we'll show you the tools, materials and skills you'll need to complete your Christmas project.
- Scoring and breaking glass, using oil-cutter, grozing pliers and cut runner
- Preparing the glass for soldering using the grinder, copper foil and crimping tool
- Soldering using a high-power soldering iron and fluxes
- Finishing and cleaning your pieces
The course cost of £89 inc VAT per person includes:
- All materials and choice of coloured glass
- Wooden base for the mini Winter Scene project
- Use of tools and protective gear
- Seasonal refreshments during the workshop
