Stained Glass Class -
Four Day Prairie-style Lamp Course
"Amazing experience - very professional and so lovely "- Debbie
This course is designed for experienced foilers who want to learn about creating 3d stained glass (and make an amazing lamp!) - beginners should attend our 1-dy Copper Foiling course first.
This intensive course for anyone who's done some copper foiled stained glass before will develop your existing skills and teach you many new ones - including advanced soldering techniques.
You'll get lots of hands-on experience with the tools we use, plus tips, tricks and a little history about this contemporary form of stained glass and you'll make a lamp to be proud of!
Our classes are suitable for anyone over 18, although we do advise that anyone with a medical condition that limits their hand strength or control contact us before booking to discuss.
With a maximum of 4 students on the lamp-making course you can be sure of plenty of attention and guidance throughout the class.
Making your own stained glass lamp requires a number of specialist techniques, making this class suitable for those who've tried stained glass before.
Four day copper foiling stained glass lamp workshop - limited to 4 people
After a short health & safety discussion, we'll start by refreshing your glass cutting skills.
Once comfortable with scoring and breaking the glass, we'll review the design you've chosen to create.
Choosing your lamp design
Students may choose from several of our designs, and a range of coloured glass to work with.
You are invited to try your hand at designing your own lamp - if you'd like to take up this option we'll discuss this with you some weeks in advance to ensure your plan is achievable in the time.
Your lamp will have 4 sides formed to make a pyramid - a form known as a 'prairie-style' lamp (after Frank Lloyd Wright's design movement), and be similar in design and size to lamps we sell in the gallery for around £300). The workshop cost includes the base, lamp hardware and all fittings to finish off your lamp - a complete package that's sure to make you want to continue to develop your stained glass skills!
You can alternatively choose to make an art-deco style lamp like the one shown - to a proven design we will provide.
Making a lamp - stretch yourself!
This workshop offers a number of further challenges compared with most stained glass classes, making this class of interest to those who've already done quite a lot of stained glass.
You'll learn about cutting opal glass using a lightbox, tools and tips to aid precision grinding (to ensure your lamp pieces all fit properly).
You'll also discover the use of the lamp soldering jig (essential for 3d objects) and how to assemble the sides in to a robust structure with a vase cap.
You can choose to pay with a deposit (refundable up to 6 weeks before the course) or pay in full.
The course cost of £540 inc VAT includes:
