Beginners Stained Glass Foiling Class - Wreath or Flower Cascade
Learn the basics of foiling stained glass and make a stylish wreath or flower arrangement in just one day!

"The course and surroundings were very inspiring " - Margaret

This workshop is a lovely one-day introduction to the foiling method of 3-dimensional stained glass construction (sometimes called the Tiffany method) - going beyond making a panel or suncatcher!

You can make a seasonal wreath or all-year wreath, or a flower cascade, or a Christmas wreath in November or December.

You'll gain a grounding in the essential techniques of foiling with plenty of hands-on experience with the tools we use, and lots of tips, tricks and a little history of modern stained glass.

One-day Wreath or Flower arrangement in copper foiling Stained glass class for up to 6 people

We start out by looking at the basic processes and tools we'll be using:

  • Scoring and breaking glass, using oil-cutter, grozing pliers and cut runner
  • Preparing the glass for soldering using the grinder, copper foil and crimping tool
  • Ensuring the pieces will all fit together properly!
  • How to hold the pieces together while soldering - essential for 3d designs!
  • Soldering using a high-power soldering iron and fluxes

We'll take you through a demonstration of how we score and break glass and then you'll then practise cutting and breaking glass!
Once comfortable with scoring and breaking the glass, we'll ask you to choose the glass you'll use.

You'll cut all the glass for the flower petals and leaves or holly leaves and then grind the pieces to fit accurately. You'll also foil and tin the red 'berries' or coloured flower centres, known as globs in the trade.
All the pieces will then be soldered together, and then we'll share the special techniques we've perfected to successfully solder multi-layered projects to complete your wreath!

The course cost of £159 inc VAT per person includes:

  • All materials, metal hoop and coloured glass
  • Use of tools and protective gear
  • Refreshments during the session including herbal teas, decaffeinated drinks & gluten-free biscuits and lunch from Bell Cafe on 1-day workshops
  • Maximum class size 6 people
  • Your wreath to take home

  • Class runs from10am to (approx) 6pm at our Northants studio
