Technical Skills Workshop - Glass Cutting Masterclass
"The workshop you ran for me was excellent, thank you. I thoroughly enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to practicing my new skills! " - Alex
This workshop is aimed at those who've done some glass cutting already and would like to learn to cut tricky shapes, improve their accuracy and gain a better understanding of how glass behaves when breaking.
This workshop is designed to help you improve your glass cutting, through practical exercises as well as some theory to help you understand what's happening when you cut glass.
Half-day Glass Cutting Masterclass class for up to 4 people
We start out by looking at the basic processes and tools we'll be using:
- Types of glass cutters and breaking tools you could use and why
- Accurate glass cutting to your design - tips for following lines
- Cutting and breaking difficult shapes, points, concaves, mutiple curves
- The importance of positioning and orientation when cutting
We'll start with demonstrations of the key techniques, and looking at how to approach a variety of difficult cuts.
You'll then work on pre-designed exercises offering a number of cutting challenges to develop new skills and put the theory in to practice.
We'll also try out a couple of different glass cutters and a selection of breaking tools, testing their use for tricky glass breaking tasks.
Finally we'll experiment with opal glass to discover how it differs from translucent glass when scoring and breaking - especially useful if you're considering making lamps or other projects with opalescent or very streaky glass.
